About Me
I'm a Melbourne boy, hailing from St Kilda with one ex, one current wife and four kids. Love the outdoors and making new discoveries. I cook a lot at home (cheers from wife) and do some preserving, mostly jams, pickles and fruit liqueurs. This is the diary of a cooking journey.

Hello You
Well, it's International Delurking Week or something like that when we bloggers can call out all you people that read our blogs but never comment. Lurkers we call you. Hey, you know that doesn't sound so great does it? Kind of icky really, like someone standing in my yard, peeking through the window. I know you guys aren't like that, in fact I don't mind if you never comment, just so long as you keep coming back.

I'm kind of sad about the person from Switzerland who was coming to the old 'food for thought' blog every day about the same time and never, ever left a comment. Once I changed the blog around the visits abruptly stopped, maybe I gave them a nervous breakdown or something, perhaps they weren't comfortable sitting at a table, who knows. But I do miss them.

It could be that some of you lot are axe murderers and need to lay low, I won't ask. But if you ever felt the need to say hi, well, I'm saying hello to you. Speak up if you like, I'm not some huge, hairy, oversize monster that will take a bite out of you - so long as you don't have anything tasty on your person. I promise to reply to each and every one of you, just like I always do, but don't count the time just before Christmas, I wasn't around to reply, okay.

But the people I'd really like to appeal too are the folk who have me in their readers. Technologically challenged me would really like to know who is using this format to follow my adventures. I'd really appreciate a shout out or something, even a private email would be fine - the address is in the About Me section. Just to know.

Hi Neil! Have been visiting often for a few months, but you probably figured that out since you've left a couple of friendly comments over at where's the beef. I actually just set up a google reader account this week... expect a deceleration in your page loads now that I don't need to manually check every lunch break for updates. :-)

Hey Neil,

I'm not a lurker as such, more a lazy commenter and feedreader user. I think a good idea would be to sign up for a FeedBurner account, at way you can see stats on everyone who is hitting just your feed instead of your site. Of course it's great getting those comments from real people... it's basically what fuels my blog most of the same... well that and caffeine.

Keep up the good work anyway.

Cheers,
Matt

Well, I´m not a lurker per se because I found this blog a few days ago and commented on the previous post.

But I did add you to my feeds at www.bloglines.com, which I think is a very easy tool to use for those of us not so tech-saavy.

Hope your Switzerland reader comes back ;) Another cool tool to check out cool statistics about your blog is Google Analytics at https://www.google.com/analytics/home/login?hl=en-US

It has a world map which marks where every one of your readers comes from, a pie chart with the percentage of new visitors-regular visitors, a pie chart with the web origin of the visits, etc.

I guess I'm the 4th official non-lurker posting a comment, but yes, I have you in my reader. (You're never getting away now!)

Hey there Neil, yep I'm an RSS reader too. I love my RSS reader, couldn't monitor the excessive number of blogs that I do any other way.

Comments are an interesting thing. Before I had a blog I never left any comments, but now I understand how important it is, to get a sense of who's reading your blog and why. Plus, of course, part of the glorious thing about blogs is the online community and conversation that can develop in comments and between blogs. It's immensely satisfying when someone leaves a big, juicy comment at the end of a post.

I'm still not a big commenter though - I don't really do the quickie "nice blog" or "great recipe" type comments, not that there's anything wrong with that, it's just not really me.

Hi Neil, this is my first time on your blog, so I'm just posting to say hello. (I found the link through lobstersquad - the design is great!)I have to admit I'm not very good with leaving comments as well, but don't be so hard on your readers - they wouldn't keep coming back if they didn't like your blog.

Actually, international de-lurking week ran from January 8th to January 12th, but I'll post a comment anyway, just because I'm a nice guy.

The site looks great! This is my first visit, but I'll definitely be popping back by to see what's cooking.

check out feedburner.com for a bunch of nice little widgets to help monitor your feeds. It works for me.

Gosh, I'm sorry I thought I left my mark here. Of course you already know I have you on my RSS reader.

Hi cindy, looks like I might have to figure out exactly how to get those stats, even get a reader for myself.

Hi matt, I've signed up, just have some issues with where to install the code on my customized template. Thanks for that, a bit more accurate than my asking isn't it!!!

Hi marce, thanks for adding me to your reader. I will check out Google stats as soon as I figure out feedburner, I'm a little slow at this.

Hi kalyn, actually I knew I was in your reader which makes me pretty happy. Thanks for letting me know though.

Hi kathryn, I'm with you on the way you comment, I like to say something. Thanks for letting me know, I really need to sort out my reader issues!

Hi lilly, and thanks for visiting. I will try to be not so hard on my readers, it was more about my curiousity about the whole thing. Thanks for the feedback.

Hi jerry, that was really kind of you to comment. I am definitely doing the feedburner thing, thanks!

Hi tanna, I knew that, thanks anyway, your always the best.

Hello Neil, yes I am still lurking about and reading away on your blog, just don't know where I am at or what I am doing at the moment with my big relocation. Keep up the good work. Cheers Amelita XXXOOO
