About Me
I'm a Melbourne boy, hailing from St Kilda with one ex, one current wife and four kids. Love the outdoors and making new discoveries. I cook a lot at home (cheers from wife) and do some preserving, mostly jams, pickles and fruit liqueurs. This is the diary of a cooking journey.

Say It With...
Cantharellus cibarius - Golden Chanterelle

Most times when I go to the market, I bring flowers home for D. Not this last time though. I spotted these at Damien Pike's mushroom stall at Prahran Market. Now, if you hadn't had a certain food from your homeland for about ten years, something you loved, wouldn't that be better than flowers?

You bet it was. They even look a tiny bit like flowers too.

lydia & tanna, you mean that no one gives you mushrooms? That's unbelievable. I swear if I was there, a bouquet of mushrooms would be coming your way!

Hi anh, I did nothing, D cooked them. I can tell you that is a 100g on the plate and she fried them up with finely chopped onion & garlic, added some chicken stock & double cream, salt & pepper and cooked until sauce like, then served it on some veal chops.

Oh Neil, a man after my own heart! I would take chanterelles over flowers any day of the week ;-) I didn't grow up with these, but as it's their season in Europe at the moment, judging by the number of chanterelle menus about, I've had a load lately and I'm in love...

I think they make a lovely bouquet and the scent would be wonderful... Mon mari brings me asparagus bouquets in season ... that would count, right?

Hi jeanne, they're not native to Oz either, these we've pinched from Europe, France I believe. The good thing for you over there would be the price, these babies were $150kg, so eat as much as you can, while you can.

Hi katiez, stop it, you're giving me ideas I shouldn't be having! Seriously, anything given with love is alright in my book.

Ok so now I am really jealous.
